چکیده

Abstract Interlocutors tend to refer objects using the same names as each other. We investigated whether native and non-native interlocutors’ tendency do so is influenced by speakers’ nativeness their beliefs about an interlocutor's nativeness. A or participant a confederate directed other around map deliver locations. manipulated confederates referred favored disfavored name, while controlling for confederates’ language behavior. found evidence of audience design addressees: participants were more likely use name after used that than name; this did not differ between participants. Results suggest both speakers can adapt partners through non-automatic, goal-directed mechanisms alignment during cognitively demanding communicative tasks.

Rapid naming is affected by association but not by syntax.

Three experiments are reported that focus on the grammatical and associative relationship between a single word context and a to-be-named target in the SerboCroatian language. Unlike studies using the English language, word class need not be violated in order to obtain grammatical incongruency: all word pairs, therefore, can be semantically plausible. Experiment 1 contrasted naming with lexical...

Neural network models for lexical addressee detection

Addressee detection for dialog systems aims to detect which utterances are directed at the system, as opposed to someone else. An important means for classification is the lexical content of the utterance, and N-gram models have been shown to be effective for this task. In this paper we investigate whether neural networks can enhance lexical addressee detection, using data from a human-human-co...

Colour appearance is affected not only by perceptual but also by linguistic context

13 Experimental protocols used to interface specific theoretical questions to empirical evidence needs to be contextualized within a univocal linguistic framework. It is well known that theoretical concepts must be operationalized, that is, each concept must be defined by the measuring operations used. Within psychology studies, for example, the concept of hunger can be operationally defined as...

Timing is affected by demands in memory search but not by task switching.

Recent studies suggest that timing and tasks involving executive control processes might require the same attentional resources. This should lead to interference when timing and executive tasks are executed concurrently. This study examined the interference between timing and task switching, an executive function. In 4 experiments, memory search and digit classification were performed successiv...

Brain cholesterol synthesis in mice is affected by high dose of simvastatin but not of pravastatin.

On a global scale, there is an increasing tendency for a more aggressive treatment of hypercholesterolemia. Minor effects of statins on brain cholesterol metabolism have been reported in some in vivo animal studies, and it seems that this is due to a local effect of the drug. We treated male mice of the inbred strain C57/BL6 with a high daily dose of lipophilic simvastatin (100 mg/kg b.wt.) or ...
